History

Our story starts way back, when I visited Liberia in 2022.

About United Hands International

Founder & Executive Director
The United hands International was founded by Mrs. Evelyn Chea Pittman in February of 2023 with the aims of creating awareness about diabetes in Liberia and supporting those affected by this disease. We believe that through Education, Prevention, and Support, we can make an lasting impact on the lives of individuals and their families.

1. To provide medical services for needy populations in rural areas as well as central Monrovia in Liberia.
2. To educate our people on how to prevent or manage illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, retinopathy (blindness), diabetes neuropathy (Nerves damage), etc.
3. To provide medical supplies.
4. To conduct advocacy against stigmatization of persons living with diabetes.
5. To reduce the burden of diabetes and improve the quality of life for all persons who have or are at risk for diabetes.

6. To carry out charitable donations to persons living with diabetes, the elderly as well as persons with disabilities.

7. To develop and implement projects and programs to support diabetes patients and reduce diabetes cases and complications.

8. Seeking international support for the provision of affordable treatment for those with diabetes.

Diabetes is a growing public health concern around the world especially in Liberia were estimated 2.1% of the population lives with the disease. In 2021, the World Bank reported that 2.1% of the population is estimated to affect 63,200 adults ages 20-79.

Diabetes is estimated to affect 9.3% adult women and 9.2% of men in Liberia. People with undiagnosed diabetes is reported to be 27.1%, while the population of people with undiagnosed diabetes is said to be 57.6%.

With the estimated cases in Liberia, we want to improve the health and quality of life of people living with diabetes by:

1. Seeing new technologies that offer us the opportunity to reach everyone with health services and health information, from the biggest cities to the remotest villages.

2. Allowing us to refocus our efforts to ensure that everyone everywhere can enjoy the highest attainable standard of health in Liberia.
